Baked French Toast with Berries & Maple Syrup

Recipe from March 2022 : Yields 8 servings

  • 1 ½ pounds sliced white bread (preferably artisan quality and day old)

  • 4 eggs

  • 4 cups milk

  • 4 tablespoon melted butter

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 2 pints mixed berries such as blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and/or blackberries

  • 1 pint maple syrup, warmed


  1. Arrange the sliced bread in a 9-by-13-inch, non-metal, baking pan.

  2. In a separate bowl, whip together the eggs, milk, butter, and cinnamon. Pour the mixture over the bread.

  3. Cover and let stand for at least one hour, but ideally overnight in the refrigerator.

  4. When ready to bake, heat your oven to 350°F.

  5. Remove the cover and place the baking dish in the oven. Bake for 30 minutes, until the bread is golden brown.

  6. Remove from the oven and allow to cool briefly.

  7. Served garnished with berries and pass the maple syrup.
